HollySys recently completed the commissioning of the distributed control system (DCS) upgrade and retrofit project for Datang Jilin Power Co., Ltd. Liaoyuan Power Plant, marking a significant step in enhancing intelligent control and operations in the power sector.
Located in Liaoyuan City, Jilin Province, China, the power plant operates two 330 MW subcritical cogeneration units, providing heating for approximately 16.08 million square meters, 89% of the city's centralized heating area. However, the upgrade & retrofit project faced complex challenges including tight timelines, overlapping construction across multiple units and the integration of systems supplied by various vendors. The Unit 3 had to be fully upgraded within 54 days, while Unit 4, along with the common and auxiliary control network, needed to be upgraded within just 18 days. The original DCS and PLCs were built by various third-party vendors, each with different technical architectures and communication protocols, making unified system integration and communication upgrades particularly demanding.
In response, HollySys formed dedicated implementation teams for main units and auxiliary control network, delivering a customized HOLLiAS® integrated solution. The solution covered legacy system upgrades, third-party system transformation, network reintegration, and communication protocol adaptation. From system planning and design to testing, delivery, and commissioning, HollySys ensured precise coordination and high-quality execution. As a result, the upgrade of 102 control stations and 142 control cabinets for Units 3 and 4, as well as for the plant’s common and auxiliary control networks, was completed within schedule. Both units achieved one-time grid connection and power generation, realizing fully autonomous and integrated DCS operation across the entire plant. The client commended the project for its efficiency, technical excellence, and on-time delivery.
