HollySys Supports the Successful Start-up of the World's Widest Glassine Paper Machine

Recently, HollySys contributed to the commissioning of Five Continents Special Paper's PM21 Special Paper Machine, the widest glassine paper machine in the world, at its Hanchuan base.

The PM21 operates at speeds of up to 1,400 meters per minute, with a maximum production width of 8.265 meters and an annual capacity of approximately 300,000 tons. It can stably produce cultural paper and low-basis-weight glassine base paper ranging from 35 to 120 g/m². As the core project of the Hanchuan base, PM21's glassine base paper — known for its high transparency, excellent smoothness and density, and strong moisture, oil, and gas resistance — will help reduce the use of plastic composite materials and support the development of low-carbon and circular economy practices.

HollySys' Distributed Control System (DCS) played a critical role with precision and stability across major production sections including pulping, broke handling, white water, approach flow, shower water, steam, ventilation, and auxiliary systems. In particular, its control of the Northern Bleached Kraft Pulp (NBKP), Leaf Bleached Kraft Pulp (LBKP), and Bleached Chemi-ThermoMechanical Pulp (BCTMP) units and the approach-flow system earned high praise from the customer.

From the outset, the HollySys project team applied rigorous standards from requirement analysis and solution design to equipment selection. During commissioning, the team leveraged deep expertise to resolve technical challenges efficiently, enabling the project to complete ahead of schedule and achieve a smooth paper-on-reel.

The success of the PM21 project reinforces the customer's competitiveness in the specialty and high-end cultural paper markets, and further strengthens HollySys' position in large, high-speed paper machine control. Looking ahead, HollySys will continue integrating its advanced control technology with leading papermaking processes to drive quality improvement, efficiency gains, energy savings, and green manufacturing across the industry.
