On January 12, 2025, GEM Global Supplier Conference took place in Hubei, China. Yan Pei, Assistant Co-President of HollySys Group and Chief Operating Officer of HollySys Asia Pacific, attended as a representative of an important strategic partner. HollySys was honored with the "Best International Collaboration Award" for its outstanding product quality, reliable supply solution, and excellent service during the QMB Indonesia Nickel Resource Project.
GEM, a leader in the new energy sector, designed the QMB Indonesia Nickel Resource Project. Located in the Morowali Industrial Park on Sulawesi Island, the project spans 1,056 acres and is expected to generate an annual output value of over 28.17 billion USD. It is also home to Indonesia's first "Hydrometallurgical and New Energy Materials Engineering Technology Research Center." HollySys has played a pivotal role in ensuring the construction and commissioning of the project over the past three years, marking a major milestone in the hydrometallurgical processing of laterite nickel ore. This innovation directly produces core materials for new energy batteries from laterite nickel ore, driving Indonesia’s transition from traditional metallurgy to the new energy era.
Looking ahead, HollySys, with its strong technical expertise, extensive project experience, and exceptional customer service, will continue to foster collaboration with GEM and other global partners, sharing its technological innovations with the world.
Project Background
HollySys' HOLLiAS® MACS DCS is used throughout the project's control system, with over 90,000 I/Os. The system supports the first phase of 30,000 tons of nickel production, the second phase of 66,000 tons, and the third phase, which focuses on ESG with 30,000 tons of nickel. It also supports downstream production lines for ternary and hydroxyl nickel, battery materials, and auxiliary systems such as power plants, beneficiation, sulfuric acid, and water treatment.
HollySys began its collaboration with GEM during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite challenges such as Indonesia's hot, rainy, and unstable climate, as well as logistical disruptions caused by the pandemic, the HollySys team leveraged its technical expertise and international project experience to ensure the efficient delivery, installation, and commissioning of systems. This effort resulted in a high-standard, safe, environmentally friendly, and efficient production line, setting a benchmark for international cooperation.
