Overview
The Lanzhou Dacheng Dunhuang 50 MW Molten Salt Linear Fresnel Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) Project is a groundbreaking achievement as the world’s first commercial-scale molten salt linear Fresnel CSP facility. Situated in the Qili Town Photovoltaic Industrial Park, Dunhuang City, Gansu Province, China, the pioneering project represents a total investment of 231 million USD. With an installed capacity of 50 MW, it is designed to produce an impressive 214 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. The facility features a vast collector area of 1,270,000 square meters and 80 heat collection loops, leveraging Lanzhou Dacheng’s proprietary linear Fresnel concentrating solar thermal technology. By utilizing molten salt as an integrated medium for heat collection, exchange, and storage, the project converts intermittent solar energy into a stable, continuous power source. With an exceptional heat storage duration of 15 hours, the system enables 24-hour uninterrupted power generation, marking a revolutionary advancement in energy production.
Solutions
HollySys played a critical role in this landmark project, taking charge of the design, integration, supply, and commissioning of the Digital Electro-Hydraulic (DEH) and Emergency Trip System (ETS). Demonstrating remarkable efficiency, the project achieved full system operation and power generation in just 18 days following the salt-inclusive commissioning phase. This achievement highlights the superior technical advantages of linear concentrating solar thermal technology with molten salt as the heat collection medium, reinforcing its potential as a reliable and efficient energy solution for the future.
Looking Adead
Building on the success of the Dunhuang 50 MW project, we are poised to further expand our expertise in molten salt-based thermal energy storage and linear Fresnel technologies. Looking ahead, HollySys remains steadfast in its commitment to driving innovation in the renewable energy sector.
