Overview

The company is situated in Kaiyuan City, Yunnan Province. It boasts cutting-edge technology in lignite pressurized gasification and stands as the premier nitrogen fertilizer enterprise on the Yungui Plateau areas. However, the production process of methanol presented complexities, spanning various sections and parameter controls. Notably, the hydrogen-to-nitrogen ratio (H/C ratio) standed as a key parameter. However, manual adjustments posed challenges, leading to operational discrepancies and mismatches, ultimately impacting both yield and energy consumption.

Solutions

This project adopted the advanced control software HiaAPC from HollySys. This software optimized the critical parameter, H/C ratio. It utilized sophisticated control strategies like model predictive control and intelligent control based on the existing DCS system. By establishing precise and rational control models, the system achieved automated, stable, and accurate control of the H/C ratio.

Results

Through the application of HiaAPC, not only did it significantly enhance the automation level of the unit, but it also generated substantial economic benefits for users. It Enhanced the automation level of the unit, which in turn improved operational stability, safety, and disturbance resistance. The utilization rate of the advanced control system exceeded 98.6%, leading to a remarkable reduction of over 31.5% in the standard deviation of key process parameters. It also significantly reduced the workload, with a reduction of more than 500 operations per day. Moreover, it realized an increase of over 0.77% in the yield of methanol synthesis products under the same conditions, resulting in cost savings in production operations and a substantial improvement in the economic performance.
