On September 6, a ceremony was held at BASF Zhanjiang (Guangdong) Verbund Site, marking completion of construction & inauguration of its first plant. Using this plant, BASF will increase its annual production of modified engineering plastics for the Chinese market by 60,000 tons, increasing its total Asia-Pacific region production capacity for this product to 420,000 tons from 2023. This will supply the increasing demand from customers in various industries, especially automobiles and electronics.

Embodying total investment of about 10 billion euros, the BASF Zhanjiang Verbund Site Project is the largest individual investment project of any German enterprise in China. Launched in November 2019, after the official commissioning of the first plant, full-scale construction of Phase I, mainly consisting of a 1,000 kt/a ethylene plant and downstream processing units, began. Upon the project’s completion, Zhanjiang City in Guangdong Province will become BASF’s third largest verbund (“integrated”) site in the world. The site’s full construction & inauguration of its first plant are of great significance in the deepening Sino-German economic, trade and investment cooperation, to the two nations’ joint handling of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and to the maintenance of the safety and stability of global petrochemicals’ industrial and supply chains. ①

In July 2022, BASF SE made its final investment decision and announced the advancement of all aspects of the construction of the BASF Zhanjiang Verbund Site. This phase focuses upon construction of the site’s core, including a steam cracker and multiple downstream units, which are scheduled to go into production by end-2025, further supporting BASF's ongoing business growth in China. Subsequent stages of the project will add downstream units to permit production of diversified products, which is scheduled to begin operation in 2028. ②
HollySys extends warm congratulations to BASF on the inauguration of the first plant at the BASF Zhanjiang Verbund Site, and reiterates its commitment to support the site’s construction and BASF’s business development through provision of full life-cycle services.
