The world's first 30 MW pure hydrogen gas turbine, "Jupiter-1“ completed its initial ignition test recently. Developed by Wuxi Mingyang Hydrogen Power Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the global wind energy leader Mingyang Smart Energy Group, the milestone marks a significant leap forward in large-scale hydrogen power generation and storage technologies.
The "Jupiter-1" is the world's most powerful pure hydrogen power generation unit, and its successful ignition has validated the reliability and safety of the pure hydrogen gas turbine system. This achievement not only demonstrates major progress in high-power hydrogen gas turbines and hydrogen energy storage but also introduces new technologies and products for long-duration energy storage, paving the way for a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
A Landmark Achievement for Hydrogen Energy
The "Jupiter-1" project represents a critical milestone in the development of hydrogen energy applications for medium and large gas turbines. Cutting-Edge Technology and Collaboration
HollySys, a global leading provider of intelligent solutions, played a pivotal role in the project's success. The company supplied its Turbine Control System for the pure hydrogen gas turbine and co-developed the dedicated controller for "Jupiter-1" with Mingyang Hydrogen Power. The controller incorporates advanced technologies such as intelligent hydrogen fuel grading and zoning, multi-layer hydrogen combustion protection, combustion adjustment, and IGV intake optimization, forming a proprietary control technology for pure hydrogen gas turbines.
Despite challenges such as the absence of design blueprints, frequent changes in measurement points, and tight deadlines, HollySys' Thermal Power Industry Division and Equipment Engineering Division worked closely together. Through meticulous planning and dedication, the team successfully completed equipment installation, debugging, and control strategy optimization, ensuring the smooth ignition of the gas turbine.
