Recently, HollySys has played a pivotal role in the commissioning of Petro China Southwest Oil & Gasfield Company's Ziyang Branch Natural Gas Purification Plant in Sichuan province, China. HollySys provided a fully integrated intelligent solution along with comprehensive lifecycle services to ensure the plant's safe and efficient operation, thereby helping the project establish multiple new industry benchmarks.
The Ziyang Branch, the largest and most advanced single-unit sulfur-containing natural gas purification facility, represents a new milestone in processing complex gas resources. As part of PetroChina Southwest's 50-billion-cubic-meter annual production base, it is designed to process 4 billion cubic meters of raw gas per year, with a single-unit daily capacity of 7.2 million cubic meters — an unprecedented scale in its class. The plant applies a purification process developed with independent intellectual property rights and leverages cutting-edge proprietary technologies, marking a major technological breakthrough and setting a new standard for advanced solutions in the energy sector.

As the project’s Main Automation Vendor (MAV), HollySys delivered a fully integrated control solution that combines Distributed Control System (DCS), Safety Instrumented Control System (SIS), Gas Detection System (GDS), and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) to address challenges of large-scale operations, complex process flows, and stringent control requirements. The solution covers all major production units, including desulfurization, dehydration, tail gas treatment, sulfur recovery, and utilities, achieving centralized monitoring and control of all plant signals, and provides a solid foundation for the plant's safe, efficient, and reliable operation.

The project also marks the first digital transformation in the natural gas purification sector. Leveraging HollySys’ integrated platform, the plant incorporates 25 smart applications, including intelligent inspection and rotating equipment online monitoring. This digital upgrade enables full-process intelligent management, significantly reduces the number of on-site operators, and improves operational efficiency by 37%, positioning the facility at the forefront of intelligent gas purification.
In this project, HollySys also provided comprehensive lifecycle services, covering system design, configuration, on-site commissioning, and digital delivery. With a modular design and efficient construction approach, the project was completed five months ahead of schedule, showcasing HollySys' strong technical expertise and execution efficiency in delivering large and complex projects.
Looking ahead, HollySys will continue to advance industrial intelligence and digitalization technologies to drive high-quality development across the oil & gas industry.
