Project overview:

Founded in 1979, Jinan Shengquan Group Share Holding Co., Ltd. (“Shengquan Group”), operates in a wide range of industries including biomass refining, resin & composite materials, casting materials, health & medicine, and new energy, with sales across China and in over 50 countries and regions in Europe, America, and Southeast Asia. Shengquan Group’s annual phenolic resin production capacity, of up to 600,000 tons, ranks it as a global leader.

Once the 230 kt/a Phenolic Resin Plant, one of Shengquan Group’s key projects, is completed and in operation, the Group’s production capacity of up to 670,000 tons will make it the largest phenolic resin manufacturer worldwide ②. This project’s plans include construction of a solid phenolic resin workshop, liquid phenolic resin workshop, raw material tank farm, central control room, warehouses, and other supporting facilities.

Project progress:

The HollySys DCS+Batch system project, launched December 19, 2020, was officially put into operation at Shengquan Group’s 230 kt/a Phenolic Resin Plant on October 28, 2021, this rapid and efficient project implementation a faithful reflection of the excellent level of needs communication between the two companies. From project initiation, facing multiple production process sticking points, the HollySys project team solved them one by one in accordance with Shengquan Group’s true needs, to finally fulfill the requirements of intelligent and fully-automatic plant production.

Overview of sticking points in phenolic resin production, and their solutions

1. Varied formulas, a wide range of raw materials, high feeding accuracy requirements

Solutions:

(1) HollySys's batch control system automates feeding, with functions designed to avoid operator error in material feeding including code scanning-based error proofing;

(2) Feed dosing for the next raw material is automatically calculated based on the actual feed dose of a major raw material together with preset raw material ratios, greatly improving feeding accuracy;

2. Multiple dropwise feeding modes

Flowmeter-based dropwise feeding at the tank farm, combined with weight-based dropwise feeding for intermediate tanks

Solution: HollySys's batch control system is customizable for two different types of dropwise feeding, i.e. incremental and decremental dropwise feeding, to fulfill on-site requirements;

3. Complex temperature control modes

Various temperature control methods suit changes in varying formulas: The required temperature control mode can be selected from five modes — natural temperature increase, external temperature increase, internal temperature increase, constant temperature, and temperature decrease — based on the formula needed for actual production.
