From July 25 to 30, 2022, the overall launch meeting for the MAV-DCS and MAV-SIS systems, together with the launch meeting for the delivery of the first batch of equipment, for Sinopec‘s Tianjin Nangang 1200 kt/a Ethylene Plant and Downstream High-end New Materials Industrial Cluster Project successfully took place, attended by over 50 members of Sinopec’s Tianjin Nangang Ethylene Plant Project Team, from Sinopec Tianjin Shihua (TJSH), China Petrochemical International (Ningbo) Co., Ltd., Sinopec Engineering Incorporation (SEI), Sinopec Shanghai Engineering Co., Ltd. (SSEC), Luoyang Petrochemical Engineering Corporation Ltd/SINOPEC (LPEC), Sinopec Ningbo Engineering Co., Ltd. (SNEC), Sinopec Nanjing Engineering Co., Ltd. (SNEI), Zhenhai Petrochemical Engineering Co., Ltd. (ZPEC), Anhui Shihua Engineering & Technology Co., Ltd. (ASEC) and Hangzhou HollySys Automation Co., Ltd. (HollySys). After cordial discussion and thorough communication over the four days, the MAV-DCS and MAV-SIS working groups were formally established, the MAV project’s overall plan formulated, relevant documents, such as management and hardware FDSs, were reviewed, and the technical agreement for delivery of the first batch of equipment signed.

The successful conclusion of these meetings "pushed the accelerator" for the project’s implementation and construction, and laid a solid foundation for follow-up work. As the major automation system supplier, HollySys counts the Tianjin Nangang Ethylene Plant Project as one of its top priority projects, and plans to integrate its high-quality resources, supply products and equipment fulfilling the bid requirements, and render full-life-cycle engineering services, in order to develop Sinopec‘s Tianjin Nangang 1200 kt/a Ethylene Plant and Downstream High-end New Materials Industrial Cluster Project’s MAV-DCS and MAV-SIS systems into high-quality petrochemical industry projects.

Project Background

Sinopec’s Tianjin Nangang 1200 kt/a Ethylene Plant and Downstream High-end New Materials Industrial Cluster Project, calling for total investment of more than 30 billion yuan and utilization of 2.4 million square meters of land area, involves construction of a production plant for ethylene and downstream products. With the 1200 kt/a ethylene cracking plant as its main installation, the project includes numerous additional production units for by-products extending downstream along the C2 and C3 product chains. These facilities include a 500 kt/a high-density polyethylene plant, 300 kt/a linear low-density polyethylene (metallocene) plant, 200 kt/a α-olefin plant, 100 kt/a polyolefin elastomer plant, 100 kt/a ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene plant, 350 kt/a polypropylene plant, 130 kt/a acrylonitrile plant, 300 kt/a ABS plant, 150 kt/a butadiene extraction plant, 600 kt/a pyrolysis gasoline hydrogenation plant, 380 kt/a aromatics extraction plant and 130/40 kt/a MTBE/butene-1 plant, alongside corresponding utility and auxiliary facilities. The project‘s completion and entry into operation, scheduled for 2023, will further boost the transformation and upgrading of traditional petrochemicals towards high-end, intelligent, green and integrated industry status, provide impetus to downstream industries of hundred billion yuan scale, and help Tianjin Nangang Industrial Zone develop into a world-class new materials chemical production center.

Contracts awarded to HollySys include three bid sections of the ethylene project’s distributed control system (DCS), safety instrumented system (SIS) and combustible/toxic gas detection system (GDS), and for the supply of independently-developed software and hardware products for DCS, SIS, GDS, IDM, OCS, network security and other systems.
