Hangzhou HollySys Automation Co., Ltd. recently signed the contract for a simulation system supporting combined heat and power generation at Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical’s Green Gas Supply Center. The project covers a plant-wide, full-range high-precision stimulation virtual DPU simulator system, serving three 540t/h ultra-high pressure/high temperature pulverized coal boilers, and two 50MW back-extraction turbines, along with electrical, desulfurization, denitration, coal handling, chemical water, heating and utility systems.

Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (“Yangzi Petrochemical") and Yangzi Petroleum Branch of Sinopec Asset Management Co., Ltd. (“Yangzi Asset Management“), collectively known as Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical, are located in the northern suburbs of Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. With premises covering 12.43 square kilometers, they mainly engage in the production of pure benzene, p-xylene, o-xylene, purified terephthalic acid (PTA), ethylene glycol, butadiene and ethylene oxide in China, using 58 large petrochemical plants, including a 12,500 k/ta oil refining plant, 800 k/ta ethylene plant and 1,400 k/ta aromatics plant.

Giants Ally for Win-win Results

Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical’s Combined Heat and Power Generation at the Green Gas Supply Center (the “Sinopec Green Gas Supply Center Project) is a Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical project critical to accelerating reform of the energy structure, and boosting green, low-carbon development, helping fulfill China’s "dual carbon" goals. It is also a key project for Nanjing. Based on the design principles of "following heat load (FHL), combined heat and power generation (CHP)", the project’s CHP generation design focuses on heat supply, with secondary power supply.

A global major supplier of automation system solutions, HollySys develops dependable, advanced, and easy-to-use technologies and products based upon independent research. The HollySys's OTS simulation system relies upon flow network algorithms derived from the conservation of energy, mass, and momentum. An organic integration of "mechanistic mathematical models + virtual DPU technology” into HollySys's MACS series DCS control software ensures 1:1 all-round, full-range simulation of the physical DCS control system, DEH and other systems, and fully reproduces the true operating conditions of the on-site physical units’ control systems, including thermal configurations, process alarms, equipment alarms, detection point listings, integrative trends, alarm indicators, PID settings and compulsory listings. Using functionality including control logic verification, system design analysis, and simulation debugging, the simulation system provides an integrated simulation solution which is supporting Sinopec’s construction of a green gas supply simulation training center at Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical, in order to fully guarantee the Green Gas Supply Center’s safe and stable operation.

As a successful application of HollySys's simulation system in Sinopec, this project has provided valuable experience of on-site implementation, strongly supporting HollySys's further cooperation with Sinopec and potentially other Chinese oil and gas enterprises such as PetroChina and CNOOC. Looking ahead, HollySys will stress the leading role of the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, pursuing an innovation-driven development path closely coordinated with and mutually supporting a greater number of industrial enterprises to fully leverage synergies with the industrial ecosystem, thereby contributing to the great mission of establishing China as the powerhouse of intelligent manufacturing!
