Project Background

The TBM "Shouchuang", independently developed and manufactured by CCCC Tianhe Mechanical Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd., is the world's first super-large diameter vertical TBM, specially designed for the No. 2 shaft of the Tianshan Shengli Tunnel①. 

As an important part of the ventilation shaft of the Tianshan Shengli Tunnel, the No. 2 shaft is located at the top of Mount Tianshan. At this altitude of 3,660 m, the temperature can drop as low as -40°C, and rock strength is over 200MPa. With a depth of 800m, it is the deepest expressway shaft in the world and also the world's first super-large diameter hard rock shaft of this depth built using the whole section excavation method. The harsh natural environment, complex geological conditions and high-standard construction requirements imposed a great challenge on the construction technology and equipment.

The LK220 series PLC system developed by Beijing HollySys Intelligent Technologies Co., Ltd. was applied to the vertical TBM "Shouchuang". This is the first successful application of domestic large-scale PLC in TBM equipment. 

Project Implementation Review 

The harsh environment and complex geological conditions have provided a great challenge, with adverse factors such as low ambient temperature, high altitude, and strong vibration. HollySys's PLC system fulfilled the system design requirements, providing stable field operation. It also ensured accurate data acquisition and display, precise control circuit logic and status indication, and correct management, operation, and diagnosis functions of the engineer station and operator station.

The TBM "Shouchuang" is equipped with the LK220 series' high-end large-scale intelligent PLC. It features multiple communication protocols supported by multiple models such as single rack and dual rack redundancy, and different types of I/O modules expanded in a number of ways. All cards are highly reliable due to the three-proofing design (moisture-proof, salt spray-proof, and fungus-proof). It is also equipped with various functions such as isolation, self-diagnosis, and output preset, and all modules are designed to be "hot-plug" and misplug proof. The working temperature is -40–+70°C, and the storage temperature is -40 – +80°C.
